Infill types (quick guide)

Infill is the internal structure of your project/print and affects the strength, weight, and time required to print.

Grid

Best for: general purpose, fast prints.

Why: simple and reliable strength in multiple directions.

Gyroid

Best for: strong functional parts, even strength.

Why: great strength-to-weight, smooth internal structure.

Honeycomb

Best for: strength + rigidity.

Why: classic pattern; can take longer than grid/gyroid.

Triangles

Best for: rigid parts and flat surfaces.

Why: strong, stable geometry.

Lines

Best for: quick, light-duty prints.

Why: fastest option, but less strength across directions.

Cubic / Adaptive Cubic

Best for: sturdy parts without huge weight.

Why: good all-around structure; adaptive saves time/material.

Quick Recommendations

  • Decorative: Infill 1–15% Gyroid, Lines, Rectilinear or Honeycomb
  • General Functional: Infill 15–25% Grid, Gyroid, or Honeycomb
  • Heavy Duty PETG/ABS: Infill 25–40% Gyroid or Cubic + Higher # of Walls
  • Flexible TPU: Infill 5–20% Gyroid + Thicker Walls

Tip: Adding walls/perimeters is usually a better strength upgrade than jumping infill from 20% to 60%.

Notes:

  • Message From Design Team: Decorative projects/prints are highly recommended to use 1-25% infill of gyroid, honeycomb, or grid. I will accept any percentage you provide, but higher infills are impractical and will only serve to increase the overall material used, print time, and price of your project. For most parts, wall thickness matters more than crazy-high infill. If using our Online Order Form, an example of the infill pattern should be visible next to your selection. If for some reason it isn't, please just contact me and I a provide you with examples of all infills.

Remember, you will be provided a digital rendering of your project for your final approval, before it is ever sent to the printer. This would be your final opportunity to make any changes, if necessary.
